Jerry Lynn Barker

Jerry Lynn has always been captivated by color and form. Her formal training began in
college many years ago, but over the years, she was busy raising a family, finishing her
education, and teaching college English. After several personal tragedies, she came back
to art as a solace in her life and found it to be an all-consuming joy. She was drawn by
faces and figures as she continued her training with several prominent local artists.
Finally, she left her teaching career to actively pursue portrait painting full time. Through
her affiliation with the Portrait Society of America, she has attended workshop training
with nationally-known portrait artists Daniel Greene, Wende Caporale, and Michael
Shane Neal, as well as demonstrations by many other nationally and internationally
known artists such as Anthony Ryder, Everett Raymond Kinstler, Burton Selverman, and
Paul Newton.
She continues her study by visiting museums around the world to view the old masters.
Because of her training and these influences, she paints in a formal manner with many
layers of glazing which help to create a three-dimensional illusion. Beginning with
preliminary sketching, many photographs, and client approval, each painting takes
several months to complete. She hopes to capture a person's inner spirit as well as
creating a fine art product and a family heirloom.
