ALBY HEADRICK

My love of the arts, especially photography, began in the mid 60's when I picked up my first camera at the age of 10 and began taking pictures of my friends. By 13 I had built my own darkroom and began to experiment with print making: manipulating photographic negatives using longer and shorter exposures to change the contrast and feel of the prints. I am self taught in many forms of art media from animation to mixing oil based inks to create color. All these are part of what I create now.

I spent most of my professional life working as a commercial artist/photographer where I developed my skills in design, composition, color etching, image manipulation and computer generated special effects of digital images. I have worked with customers such as Southern Living, Cooking Light, Brombergs, among many more. Over the years I have worked with many artists including, Larry Martin, Daniel Moore and Chris Hartsfield. Since 1992, I have been creating images with digital photography. In 2005 I got more serious about my personal body of art, creating and publishing as a fine artist instead of just the commercial work I had been doing before. I now use computers, photoshop and giclee printers to do my print work using new and old dark room techniques that had first inspired me in the 60's.

While my work ranges from photo-realism to abstracts, all of my subject matter is organic. All of my images begin as something natural, even just a streak of light, and I treat them with various techniques to add an artistic edge. I am always experimenting with time-motion studies, light captures and new technologies like HDR, layer manipulation and panoramic stitching.

My goal, in any work I do, is to elicit an emotional response in my audience and to creat a body of work that will give pleasure to generations to come.
