As a child, I enjoyed drawing, but never had the opportunity to take lessons. A childhood friend did take lessons and created beautiful oil paintings that I was mesmerized by. Over the years, the desire to learn to paint lingered in the back of my mind. Life happened, and here it is, years later. In 2004 I decided that it was time to learn to paint. I ordered my supplies from the internet, along with two Helen Van Wyk videos. Even though I am considered a self-taught artist, Helen was my first teacher. Since then, I have taken a couple of workshops with Robert Warren and have learned from DVDs by Alexei Antonov and Mark Carder. I attribute my many recent successes and dramatic improvement to Mark Carder. He helped me open my eyes and see. He and the members of his forum have given me encouragement and guidance along this wonderful journey. Many of my paintings grace the walls of homes in the Birmingham and Mobile areas. I am a member of the Birmingham Art Association and show my work in their Member's Shows. My work has also been shown in the Birmingham Art's Journal, in a solo exhibition at Sacred Art Gallery and in APW Gallery in New York City. I receive great joy in watching the faces and hearing the remarks of people who see my paintings for the first time. |
