Raised in Birmingham, Alabama, Mary Liz Ingram grew up with an active love for art. As a child, she was introduced to the basics of drawing and painting by her grandmother, and encouraged to pursue this passion by her supportive family. She has taken several classes in the Birmingham area, and worked with noted watercolorist Don Rankin at Samford University. Mainly a self-taught artist, she has been drawing commissioned portraits and other art for over ten years.

In the past, her work has focused mainly on graphite portraits and watercolor. Over time, she began working with soft pastels, doing quick sketches which graduated to a passion and greater enjoyment doing full pastel portraits.

Mary Liz specializes in art that mirrors life, seeking to bring out the character and essence in her subjects, whether they be children, adults, animals, or locations. She enjoys finding images that go beyond the traditional formal pose. Her love for art is joined by a love of travel, inspiring many of her landscapes which depict the British Isles and other scenes from her experiences.
