I've been involved with photography for over 35 years, strictly on an amateur basis. I bought my first camera when I was a student at the University of Wisconsin, and it's been a serious hobby ever since. I'm one of the "old school" photographers who still prefers to use film rather than digital cameras, mainly because I'm more comfortable with that medium. But also because I think that the quality of film photographs is better than those taken with digital cameras. And my day job in the photo-lab at Wolf Camera gives me a great deal of latitude in editing the pictures I take, greatly enhancing my options. The subjects of my work vary, ranging from photos of people to landscape shots. Because I take multiple shots of the same subject, and because I'm highly critical of the photographs I take, I'm happy if I get one picture from a roll of film. One of the most important things I've learned is that film is cheap compared with the possible rewards. I've also learned that the lighting of a scene can change in a matter of minutes, so it's worth the wait to get just that right shot. |
